Life and CareerEdit
Yustafi was born on 1 September 1996 in Adoriam City, the capital of the country with the same name. Her parents were both of Pesan descent. The family was working class, with her parents running a small car washing business. She has a younger brother, Andre, born in 1998.
Yustafi attended primary and secondary school in Adoriam, but she didn't involve herself in music until the age of 14, in 2010, when her parents bought her a guitar for her birthday. Yustafi later spoke about how that guitar changed her life in an interview, stating "I suddenly picked up this instrument and a whole different universe appeared in front of me, there was not a second in which I would stop thinking about notes and lyrics." Yustafi also stated how music helped her overcome her grandmother's death as well as her splitting up with her boyfriend.
Regarding school, Yustafi had maintained an average profile and stated she was never part of the popular crowd. In an interview she stated, "I don't know, I never tried or achieved anything big, I barely went to parties and was definitely not part of the popular clique. I lived my life happily with my close friends." It was at this time that she wrote the song Here.
2015–present: "Here", Asmatovision and breakthroughEdit
Following her graduation from high school in 2014, Yustafi started working in Starbucks as a cashier, in order to earn money and to not depend on her parents. She enrolled in the University of Adoriam, with a major in human relations. Encouraged by her brother, Yustafi posted covers of songs in YouTube, and they unexpectedly received attention from the public. Yustafi soon became a well-known face in Adoriam's youth and later gained 200,000 Instagram followers.
Following the announcement of Adoriamfestivalen 2016, Yustafi was approached by Ryd Records in order to compete in the contest. Yustafi accepted it and recorded her song "Here", which she said she had kept locked inside her memory since high school. The song was also released as a single in Asmatys and became a hit. Yustafi earned 16 points in her semi-final, coming in second place and qualified straight to the final, where she came in first place with 17 points. After her victory, Yustafi stated, "I really can't believe what's happenning, all I know is that I will make my country, and every kid who has ever identified with my song, proud." She will now represent Adoriam in the Asmatovision Song Contest 2016.
Yustafi has stated she's very interested in psychology, philosophy and human relations, and admitted to almost majoring in philosophy but changed her mind in the last minute.
She also has a keen interest in literature, stating her favorite writer is Haruki Murakami.
