Life and career[]

Early life[]

Növötoro was born on 18 June 1980 as Katarina Növötoro in Pivot, Jurgensland. Her father Növ was an electrician while her mother Katia was a nurse. She has two younger sisters. When Növötoro was eight years old, her father died of lung cancer. Her mother remarried in 1995.

Növötoro attended primary school in Pivot, where she excelled academically and began pursuing music. She learned how to play the piano at age nine, and has stated that music helped her get through her father's death. After graduating from primary school in 1995, she began attending a performing arts high school in Pivot, graduating in 1998. After her graduation, she moved to Ubenmoor to pursue a music career.

1998–2002: Breakthrough and Nightlocke[]

After moving to Ubenmoor, Növötoro began performing in coffeeshops while working in a record store to support herself. She was signed to Dragonborne Records in autumn 1998. The following year, she released her debut single "Drive All Night". The song was a massive success, reaching number-one in Lashardia and being certified 2x platinum

Növötoro went on to release her debut studio album Nightlocke in 2000. The album was a huge critical success, and was commended for its eclectic sound. Nightlocke reached number-two on the Lashardian albums chart and was certified gold. It also produced the hit singles "Superlove" and "Unknown World".

2002–2006: Tripwire[]

In 2002, Növötoro revealed that work on her second studio album had commenced. In 2004, the lead single "Shout My Name" was released. The song did not achieved the levels of commercial success her previous work had, but still became a Top 20 hit in Lashardia and Adoriam.

The following year, her second studio album Tripwire was released. The song saw a more heavy influence from pop and synthpop than her previous work, and received mixed reviews from critics and fans. It reached number-six on the Lashardian albums chart and produced the singles "Radio" and "China Doll".

2006–2009: Tigerlily[]

In 2006, Növötoro revealed that she had begun work on what she called "The Tigerlily Project". The following year, she released the single "Tigerlily", and revealed that it was the lead single from her upcoming concept album Tigerlily. The album told the story of a young woman named Tigerlily who was born in a forest and did not understand the ways of humans.

The album was released in 2008, and achieved positive reviews from critics, while peaking at number-four on the Lashardian albums chart. It also produced the singles "Humans", "Who Am I", and "Belong".

2009–2013: Quicksand[]

In 2009, Növötoro revealed that work on her third studio album was halfway complete. She released the album's lead single "Queen of Hearts" in 2010. The song saw a dramatic shift in musical style, being heavily influenced by punk rock rather than the more electronic-oriented music her previous work was.

In 2011, she released her fourth studio album Quicksand. The album achieved very little commercial success, but received critical acclaim.

2013–present: What's a Girl to Do[]

Növötoro began work on her fifth studio album in 2013. In a 2014 interview, she described the album as "80s pop mixed with punk rock, electronic music, and indie rock". The album's lead single "What's a Girl to Do" was released later in the year.

The album of the same name was released a year later. It achieved minor commercial success, peaking within the Top 10 Lashardian albums chart, but was much more successful in Adoriam, where it was certified gold. It also produced the singles "Downtown" and "Lights Out".

Personal life[]

Növötoro resides in the Breż district of Ubenmoor. She married her longtime boyfriend, the Homean Adam Trencher in summer 2010 in a small ceremony in Pivot.
