Marinetta Maria Porgözhedh (born 3 January 1989), known in her solo career as simply Marinetta, is a Lashardian singer and songwriter, best known for being one-half of the folk duo Jekyll.
In 2015, Jekyll went on a hiatus and Marinetta launched her solo career, performing electronic music drastically different from the folk music she made with Jekyll. She came to prominence as a solo singer while competing in Mösikalifestivali 2017.
Life and career[]
Early life[]
Marinetta was born on 3 January 1989 in the Breż district of Ubenmoor, as Marinetta Porgözhedh. Her father, Porg, and her mother, Safina, were musicians, artists, writers, and photographers. While Marinetta grew up poor, she states that she had a happy childhood and a strong relationship with her parents, being an only child.
Marinetta attended primary school in the nearby Hoffmann, where she went to school with the children of celebrities and other affluent people. She recalls being insecure of her home due to this, and that she had very little friends. After graduating from primary school in 2004, she began attending a performing arts high school in Jorden, where she was introduced to folk music. She graduated in 2007, and began to pursue a professional music career.
2008–2015: Work with Jekyll[]
After graduating high school, Marinetta worked odds-and-ends jobs to support herself in addition to performing with various Ubenmoor-based bands. She also dabbled as a solo artist and professional songwriter, but did not experience success with any of her endeavors.
In 2008, she was introduced to musician Garet Zhettöpöst, and they formed a folk duo known as Jekyll. The duo were unsuccessful for their early career, until being signed to Abigail Rhodes Records in 2011. They went on to release two mildly successful albums; Melodies in 2012, and Freedom Fight in 2014. Following the release of Freedom Fight, they announced that they decided to go on a hiatus in order for Marinetta to pursue a solo career. They insisted that the group was not breaking up, and that they'd return eventually.
2015–present: Solo work[]
Following the announcement of Jekyll's hiatus, it was confirmed that Marinetta had signed a solo contract with Abigail Rhodes Records. She later stated that her solo music would be drastically different from the folk music that Jekyll performed. In 2016, Marinetta was confirmed to be competing in Mösikalifestivali 2017, with the song "Spirit Animal". She qualified from the third semi-final, directly to the final. In the final, she placed eighth.
Personal life[]
Marinetta resides in the Breż district of Ubenmoor, and lives in the same apartment complex as her parents. She has identified herself as a Buddhist. She married bandmate Garet Zhettöpöst in June 2013.
