Background and composition[]

Despite being the daughter of Lashpop pioneer Katia Flaksöberg and folk legend Erg Palörot, Ergörot had vehemently stated that she had no desire to sign to a major label and wanted to simply release music independently for her whole career. In 2008, she independently released the album Blue Apples, which greatly enhanced the desire from record labels to sign her.

In 2010, at the urging of her mother, she signed to Akai Music Group to begin work on a major-label studio album. On 30 July 2011, Ergörot revealed that the album's lead single would be released on 5 August 2011. The song, "Fun House", debuted at number-11 on the Lashardian singles chart, before falling to number-76 the following week. The album's second single, "The Artist", was released on 18 November 2011 and peaked at number-23. The album, titled Polaris, was later released on 2 December 2011.
